Farming Practices: Organic Practising and Regenerative

Guthrie Family Wines is the passion project of Blair and Caroline Guthrie, a husband-and-wife team making honest, low-intervention wines that reflect the way they live: clean, curious, and committed to doing things better. Blair also makes wine for Caroline’s family winery, Stewart Cellars—a polished, Napa Cabernet-focused operation—but Guthrie Family Wines is where they get to strip things back and follow their own rhythm.

They don’t own vineyards, but they work closely with growers who share their values: regenerative farming, organic practices, and fair employment. Nearly half of their fruit comes from dry-farmed sites, and they avoid synthetic inputs in both the vineyard and the cellar. Winemaking is minimalist—native ferments, whole clusters, and just a whisper of sulfur or tartaric acid when needed. Starting with the 2020 vintage, they began listing ingredients on their labels, because transparency matters.

The wines are fresh, vibrant, and full of personality. Each one gets its own name (in alphabetical order) and its own label, often designed by emerging artists from around the world. Blair designed the first few himself—including Archival and Château Guthrie—and the spirit of creativity runs deep. But at the heart of it all is a simple belief: wine is about people and place. It’s about lifting others up, protecting the planet, and leaving something better behind for the next generation.

Take a sip home with you!
