ABOUT EVOLUTION

Baby-brother brand to Sokol Blosser, this started as a project to continue releasing wines when a nasty pest called phylloxera wiped out most of their vineyards. Through luck and intention, it has evolved (see what we did there?) into a brand in it’s own right under siblings & co-presidents Alison & Alex Sokol Blosser.

OUR FAVE THING ABOUT THIS WINE
Alex has done a fun trick inspired by the Rhône region of France where he’s blended in a pinch of the Lucky 9 White to add a little extra fun to this baby that’s already big on good times!

THE GOOD STUFF THEY DO
Gosh, besides not practising biodynamics (and Alex has some very good – and pretty entertaining reasons for that), there’s not much the Sokol Blossers don’t do exceptionally well. They’re B. Corp Certified, Salmon Safe, organic…heck, they’re even one of the first wineries in the world to have a Green Building certification for their cellar! Add in the hyper-sustainable angle of these cool kid boxes, and there’s not much more we could ask for!

THE TECHNICAL STUFF
Place: Oregon, USA
Grape: Syrah, Sangiovese, Montepulciano and a sprinkle of Lucky 9
Style: Ripe fruit fun!
Ingredients: Yeast (commercially available strains), Malolactic bacteria, sulfites, grape concentrate, tartaric acid
Limited Addition Mencia Cabernet Franc Rose, Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA, Rose Wine Bottle

ABOUT LTD +

Chad and Bree Stock, a husband-and-wife team, have merged their superpowers and unique backgrounds in wine to create Ltd. +, which emerged as a collaboration with farmers in the area, inspired to develop a diverse and sustainable wine landscape. The wines, often made from less common grape varieties adopting innovative techniques, are changing preconceived notions of Oregon wine.

THE GOOD THINGS THEY DO
Where do we start? The whole project is geared toward ensuring Oregon remains a viable wine-growing region through climate change. They’re not only encouraging growers to work with a more diverse spread of grapes that will weather the changing weather, but they’re also ensuring that seasonal workers are employed for longer because these alternative grapes ripen at different times. They’re also active supporters of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities in wine.
OUR FAVE THING ABOUT THIS WINE
This wine was a happy little accident. Bree’s attempt at Mencía rosé turned much darker than expected. When the bottles they needed for their pink Cab Franc Pét-Nat didn’t arrive in time, she decided to blend that with the Mencía to lighten it up. Folks used to think Mencía may have been related to Cab Franc back in the day, so the blend made a weird kind of perfect sense.

Place: Eola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA
Grape: Mencía, Cabernet Franc
Style: Brilliant & broody

OUR FAVE THING ABOUT THIS WINE
Okay, kids – we’re gonna get geeky about the science behind the ripening of these grapes: those green, herbaceous flavours often found in Sauvignon Blanc (think bell pepper or gooseberry) come from compounds called methoxypyrazines, which are photodegradable—meaning they break down when exposed to sunlight. In the Willamette Valley, growers remove leaves around the grape clusters, letting the sunshine work its magic, while the cool climate keeps the wine fresh and vibrant. The result? A tropical, sun-kissed Sauvignon Blanc with guava and passionfruit flavours, made even richer by barrel fermentation and ageing on its lees—a fun twist on a classic variety!

OUR FAVE THING ABOUT THIS WINE
The coolest thing about this wine is the story behind it—old vine Arneis from a special vineyard gifted by Barolo’s Vietti family to the Chehalem Mountain-based Ponzi family decades ago. It’s a beautiful connection between two winemaking families and a rare chance to see how this Italian variety thrives in Oregon’s unique soil and climate.
