Meet Thinus Krüger
Location: Piket-Bo-Berg, Swartland, South Africa
Farming Practices: Sustainable
FRAM is the solo adventure of Thinus Krüger, one of South Africa’s most quietly brilliant winemakers. After years working with big-name brands, he set out to make wines that felt more personal—more wild, more honest, more fun. FRAM is his way of exploring the edges: remote vineyards, offbeat varieties, and a fearless approach to winemaking that’s all about character over polish.
Now based in Piket-Bo-Berg in the Swartland, Thinus lives with his wife Hanneke—yes, the one behind Vino Ph—and together they’re part of a new wave of winemakers putting South Africa’s most rugged terroirs on the map. FRAM wines are made with minimal intervention and maximum curiosity: Citrusdal Mountain Chenel, Swartland Grenache Gris and whatever else catches Thinus’s eye. Each bottle is a snapshot of South Africa’s wild beauty, and of a winemaker who’s never afraid to venture off the beaten track.
