Kottabos

Meet Reenen Borman

Location: Stellenbosch, South Africa

Farming Practices: Sustainable and Organic Practising

Kottabos is a boundary-pushing wine project from Reenen Borman, one of Stellenbosch’s most thoughtful and precise winemakers. Known for his work at Boschkloof and Saga Vineyards, Reenen launched this label to explore the untapped potential of the Polkadraai Hills—a subregion of Stellenbosch marked by granite-rich soils, elevation, and tension.
The name comes from an ancient Greek drinking game—a nod to playfulness, experimentation, and the joy of wine. But don’t be fooled: these wines are deeply considered.

Reenen works with high-elevation, dry-farmed bush vines and keeps the winemaking raw and restrained. Think whole bunch fermentation, concrete and old oak, and a light touch in the cellar.

The wines are elegant but earthy, cerebral but drinkable—bottles that speak to place, curiosity, and the freedom to color outside the lines.

Take a sip home with you!
