Location: Veneto, Italy
Farming Practices: Organic
Le Fraghe means “strawberry,” and it’s more than a name—it’s a nod to the wild berries that grow between the vines in Matilde Poggi’s organic vineyards in Bardolino. Her family had farmed this land for generations, selling grapes to other producers, until Matilde decided to make wine herself in the 1980s. That first vintage was a quiet act of defiance, and she’s been charting her own course ever since.
Matilde’s influence stretches far beyond her vineyard rows. She’s the former president of FIVI, Italy’s federation of independent growers, and now leads CEVI at the European level. Le Fraghe is her story: rooted in tradition, grown with intention, and touched by the wild.
